Matthew Hoogveld – Richmond, BC


Matthew is a very active volunteer dedicated to helping his community. He is part of the Steveston United Peers for teens helping teens with disabilities and the Steveston Wit Active Teens. He also helps to decorate his church and local elementary school for special events and volunteers for the CHIMO crisis hotline. At school Matthew is part of the Interact Club, the Spirit Committee, the Grad Committee and the Student Council. He has also given his time as the Co-Chair for Hunger for Haiti the Steveston Community Centre SUP Program where he works with disabled children and teens. Athletically Matthew was part of the Richmon Metro ‘A’ Soccer Club and has also played Lacrosse and Volleyball.

Matthew will be studying Kinesiology at the University of British Columbia.

The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program aims to honour the spirit of Terry Fox, one of Canada’s greatest heroes, by encouraging Canadian youth who strive to emulate Terry Fox’s courage and determination by providing their communities and those in need with humanitarian service.
